Daughter Wins 1st Place in 2012 Marine Art Contest
For the very first time, my daughter Xuan Chau entered the 2012 Marine Art Contest by Stellwagen Bank, and won the first place in the middle school age group. Although this isn't such a big event, I am very proud of her effort. The entire illustration was done all by herself without any instructions from any teacher. Here is the color pencil art she created:
"There were 800 entries this year from more than 50 schools, including institutions from China and Kazakhstan, and several homeschooled students – and many outstanding creations. The judges included professional artist Sandra Faxon, professional graphic designer and artist Dennis Huston, members of the MME Board of Directors and staff at Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary. Winning artwork and many of the honorable mentions will be framed and become part of a traveling exhibit that will tour public venues during the summer and throughout the 2012-2013 school year."
In addition to 4 tickets to the New England Aquarium, the prize for 1st place also includes a $40 cash, this is officially the first cash my daughter earned (though she has gotten certificates to a specific music store in the past for piano competitions), so it's worth the mention. My son wasn't happy, though, he wondered why only his sister could get money, well...

Thanks a lot, Jamie, for the compliment. She is indeed quite talented. I'm glad she never lost creativity and imaginations. I like drawing myself and considered myself talented as well (not as good as my daughter, though). I am thinking about learning oil painting one day.

What a nice drawing, your daughter is so talented.
I have trouble drawing a straight line and am always impressed by people with people artistic ability.
Have a nice day :)
